Downpour
When I draw characters, I usually draw them with a soft smile. This is mainly because I’m lazy and copy the lines for the smiles from character to character, but also because I want them to be happy. Unfortunately, the smile has become rather ubiquitous in my latest images.
One of my friends commented that the images I’d drawn to date of Mélodie make her look like she’s always having fun. I’ve always wanted to spread out the range of emotions I show in my works and still believe that every artwork I draw has to have some kind of meaning to it. I challenged myself to show a gloomier emotion without showing any facial expressions at all as I’m still getting the hang of drawing believable expressions. While I’m not entirely confident I managed that, I do quite like the atmosphere I created in this picture.
